After wakeboarding at CWC in Pili, Camarines Sur, we immediately proceed to our next destination, Legazpi, Albay. The hometown of the majestic Mayon Volcano!

When tomorrow comes
Albay on Mayon
Feeling frightened of
The things that I don’t know
When tomorrow comes
Tomorrow comes
Tomorrow comes

Again, if you’ve read the part 1 of this blog in Camarines Sur, Bicol is not province, but it’s a region and the provinces are Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon. Legazpi City is the capital of Albay.

Cagsawa Ruins

Mayon Volcano is very majestic, it’s so mesmerizing in person. I was totally in awe while looking at it in person. Ibang-iba sa pictures, they cannot give justice to its beauty. I personally like nature and natural wonders that’s why I fell in love with it. There’s a spot in Cagsawa ruins that has a Jesus Christ statue with its background, the ruins and Mayon Volcano. Mapapa-Jesus Christ ka rin sa dami ng taong nagpipicture. Expectation yang picture ko, I cropped all the people out of the photo.

Cagsawa Ruins was submerged by the lava/lahar of Mayon Volcano when it had erupted. Some parts of the church are seen but its roof where already destroyed. Cagsawa Ruins has an entrance fee of ₱20 for adults and ₱10 for kids.

I was able to capture Mayon during the night, but it was really difficult due to the super bright flood lights attached to the ruins that ruins the night shots. I was hoping for a milky way shot, but I wasn’t lucky enough to capture it on the right time.

We had our lunch at Zekie’s Gotohan and Fastfood Restaurant just right inside the Cagsawa Ruins. I tried their Pork Sinigang in Coconut Juice. It’s weird that it’s a bit sweet and not the typical sour type of sinigang. I just prefer the sour type of sinigang.

I also tried the 1st Colonial Creamery Sili Ice Cream. They have levels of spiciness from mild, moderate, and extreme. I tried the moderate and it tastes really weird because it feels cold but it tastes like a chili, all spice with the plant-like taste without the cream. That would be my first and last try of that ice cream. It’s not for everyone.

Sumlang Lake

Sumlang Lake is just near Cagsawa and will give you a different spectacular view of Mayon Volcano. Sumlang is just a small man-made lake where you can pay ₱50 so you can experience and ride the bamboo raft. Sumlang Lake has an entrance fee of ₱20.

Nuestra Señora de la Porteria Parish Church

Also known as Daraga Church or Our Lady of the Gate Parish Church. It is a fine example of baroque architecture built in 1772 by the Franciscan Friars. The church is made from volcanic rocks. Another baroque structure is the Miag-ao Church in Iloilo. It was declared as a National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines in 2007. The facade of the church has an intricate design of medieval ages. However, inside the church were already modernized and do not compliment the classical design of the facade.

We thought we’re unlucky that day because it has started to drizzle, but it was blessing in disguise because the rainbow has showed up and created a spectacular view with the church.

Legazpi Boulevard

We went to Legazpi Boulevard to see Mayon during the night, unfortunately it was too cloudy and it was about to rain and we’re not able to see Mayon during that time. Sobrang dilim lang at umaambon. We just had our dinner at the nearby bar there. I was able to bond with my temporary family in Bicol trip since I was alone. I’m really grateful for their warm welcome.

ATV in Legazpi

You can also try ATV in Legazpi starting from ₱499. There are many tour guides that will offer you ATV, but don’t worry they are almost of same rate. I did not try it because I’m not a fan of ATV, I don’t feel excited about it and there’s no adrenaline. Maybe because it feels too slow for me since I got used to with the adrenaline that I get when I was still working for an ambulance.

Ligñon Hill Nature Park

We also visited the Ligñon Hill Nature Park where you have the Mayon Volcano view and the Legazpi Airport. They also have a zipline, but I wasn’t interested because it’s just short. There’s nothing really spectacular about the place, aside from the fact that it was used to kill time. Hahaha!
